Luweero

Kasana–Luweero Diocese is set to induct its newly ordained priests and newly appointed parish priests in an exercise aimed at strengthening pastoral ministry, promoting unity and enhancing collaboration.

The induction is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre (PJPIIPC), at the diocesan headquarters in Kasana, Luweero Town Council.

The Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Ssekyanzi Lyevuze, has confirmed the exercise.

The induction will familiarize the newly ordained priests with the administrative structures, pastoral priorities and operational procedures of the Diocese as they begin their priestly ministry.

Newly appointed parish priests will also participate to help them understand their responsibilities in leading their respective parish communities.

The programme will introduce the priests to the work of various diocesan departments, commissions and institutions, including Education, Health, Caritas, Vocations, the Catholic Men’s Guild and the Catholic Women’s Guild, among others.

Through these engagements, the priests will gain a deeper understanding of the different apostolates and ministries that support the Church’s mission of evangelization, spiritual formation and service to God’s people.

The newly appointed parish priests will also be guided on their pastoral and administrative responsibilities, including the coordination of parish activities, the promotion of communion among the faithful and collaboration with diocesan leadership and other Church institutions.

The exercise is intended to foster a spirit of communion, shared responsibility and cooperation among priests, parishes, diocesan departments and Church institutions in advancing the mission of Kasana–Luweero Diocese.

According to the programme, the exercise will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m.

What the Induction Means for the Newly Ordained Priests

In the Catholic Church, priestly ordination confers the sacred order of the priesthood, commissioning a man to serve God’s people through the celebration of the sacraments, the proclamation of the Gospel, pastoral care and other sacred duties entrusted to him by the Church.

The induction programme complements this sacramental milestone by introducing the newly ordained priests to the practical, pastoral and administrative life of the Diocese in which they will exercise their ministry.

It also helps them appreciate that priestly ministry is not exercised in isolation but in communion with the Bishop, their brother priests, religious communities and the lay faithful.

For newly appointed parish priests, the induction provides an opportunity to understand the expectations attached to their new assignments and the importance of shepherding their parish communities in accordance with the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.

Background

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Bishop of Kasana–Luweero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, ordained seven priests at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Cathedral in Kasana.

The newly ordained priests are Rev. Fr. Cyprian Kaliisa, Rev. Fr. Julius Luttamaguzi, Rev. Fr. Wasswa Lubega Paul, Rev. Fr. Kato David Nkugwa, Rev. Fr. Expedito Kisitu, Rev. Fr. Mathew Mulamira and Rev. Fr. Hilary Tebuseeke.

According to the Kasana–Luweero Diocesan Priests’ Association (KALUDIPA) 2025 Annual Report, presented on November 27, 2025, the association had 84 members at the time.

Following the subsequent death of one of its members, the late Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Ssessanga, and the ordination of the seven new priests, the association’s membership now stands at 90 priests.

Kasana–Luweero Diocese serves the faithful in the civic districts of Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.
