On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, officials from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) visited the Bishop of Kasana–Luweero Diocese at the Diocesan Administration Block to deliver his renewed National Identity Card.
The team was led by Hillyard Kinene.
“Thank you for the good work,” Bishop Mukasa told Kinene as he guided him through the collection process, which included placing his thumb on a verification scanner and signing the confirmation register to acknowledge receipt of the card.
In October 2025, NIRA announced that over five million national identity cards had been printed and were ready for collection, four months after launching a mass enrolment and renewal campaign targeting at least 33 million cards nationwide.
The ambitious exercise, which began on May 27, 2025, aims to renew 15.8 million expiring IDs and register 17.2 million new citizens as Uganda replaces cards issued a decade ago that are now expiring.
NIRA communications officer Peter Okwalinga confirmed that the printed cards have been dispatched across the country—including to Kampala, Wakiso, Mityana, and Tororo—and are ready for distribution.
