Choir Members Donate 50 Bags of Cement to the Diocese
By Bernard Bakalu
Luweero
Choir members have been encouraged to deepen their spiritual lives so that they may be counted among those who will “sing for the Lord” in the heavenly liturgy.
This exhortation was delivered on Saturday, November 22, 2025, by Msgr. Matthias Kanyerezi during his homily at Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace—Kasana Cathedral.
“Renew your life spiritually, so that you may be ready to meet the Lord when He calls you,” Msgr. Kanyerezi urged.
The Holy Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, Bishop of Kasana–Luweero Diocese. At the bishop’s request, Msgr. Kanyerezi offered the day’s sermon, reminding choir members of their vocational dignity:
“You should be among those who will sing for Him in Heaven,” he said.
The Prelate emphasized the importance of ongoing conversion, urging all choir members to seek the Lord’s mercy while time and grace are still afforded to them. He further encouraged them to remain creative, united, and cooperative, likening their ministry to the harmony of the human body: when one part suffers, the entire body feels the impact.
“Every choir member should care for his or her fellow singer,” he insisted. “In this way, our ministry of sacred music in the Church acquires its true meaning.”
The choir members were on pilgrimage to the Diocese as part of the ongoing observances of the Holy Jubilee Year 2025, during which parishes and institutions across the Diocese have been undertaking similar spiritual journeys. They were accompanied by their Diocesan Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Ggombya, and Mrs. Lydia Sebuyungo Namatovu, a member of the Diocesan Laity Committee responsible for liturgy.
According to Mrs. Sebuyungo, this particular pilgrimage drew participants primarily from parishes within Kasana Deanery.
After the celebration of Mass, the pilgrims donated 50 bags of cement to support Bishop Mukasa’s initiative to construct new parishes within the Diocese.
Addressing the pilgrims, Bishop Mukasa expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“I thank you for this cement—thank you very much,” he said.
He also lauded them for offering their God-given musical gifts in service to the Church’s liturgy:
“I thank you for using your talent in singing to help the faithful during Mass.”
The bishop encouraged the choir members to begin preparing for a Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2027, as well as for the solemn closing of the Holy Year of the Jubilee on December 28, 2025.
