Bishop Mukasa hails contributors as BAAFU raises UGX 329m

By Bernard Bakalu

The Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kasana–Luweero, has announced plans to establish additional parishes within his diocese in the near future.

This announcement comes just two months after the prelate created 10 new parishes, marking a significant milestone in the diocese’s expansion efforts.

On August 23, 2025, during the Priestly and Diaconate Ordination ceremony at Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace, Kasana Cathedral in Luweero Town Council, Bishop Mukasa ordained two new priests — Rev. Frs. Edward Ssempijja and Bruno Sserunkuuma — along with seven deacons.
During the same ceremony, he also announced the creation of ten new parishes: Wobulenzi, Bugongo, Kansiira, Kazwaama, Kyegombwa, Lwampanga, Katuugo, Butalangu, Waluleeta, and Nakitoma.

This expansion brought the total number of parishes in the 28-year-old diocese to 30, covering the three civil districts of Luweero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola.
The other 20 parishes include Kasana Cathedral, Kasaala, Kakooge, Nakasongola, Migyeera, Ngoma, Kapeeka, Kiwoko, Nakaseke, Kijaguzo, Kannyanda, Nandere, Kalule, Namaliga, Katikamu, Nattyoole, Ziroobwe, Mulajje, Kikyuusa, and Kamira.

Speaking on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during the climax of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAFU) 2025, Bishop Mukasa expressed profound gratitude to all the faithful and well-wishers who generously contributed to the success of this year’s campaign.

He said, “I sincerely thank all the Christians, friends, and partners who have continued to support the mission of our diocese through BAAFU. Your generosity and unity of purpose strengthen the foundation of our Church and help us to expand our pastoral reach.”

The bishop revealed that part of the funds raised will be used to establish more parishes and to offset the diocesan loan on the KALUDO Complex. He further noted that “proceeds from last year’s BAAFU were instrumental in establishing Nakitoma Parish,” adding that this year’s collections will equally advance the Church’s development agenda.

Suzan Kintu Namujju, the Diocesan Treasurer for the Laity, announced that UGX 329 million had been raised during this year’s BAAFU campaign. She described the amount as “a remarkable improvement compared to last year’s UGX 240 million.”

Although the target for this year was UGX 500 million, Namujju said “the results are encouraging and reflect significant growth in community participation and generosity.”

Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Achilles Kiwanuka, the Diocesan Treasurer General, announced that beginning next year, the Diocesan budget for BAAFU will be shared in January rather than mid-year.
He explained that “early planning will allow parishioners more time to prepare and contribute toward diocesan projects.”

Speaking at the same event, the Vicar General, Msgr. Vincent De Paul Mukiibi, said he has received positive feedback from Christians appreciating the bishop’s initiative to create new parishes, noting that it has brought pastoral services closer to the people.
“I also want to thank you for your love for the Diocese, as demonstrated through your generous contributions and unwavering support for BAAFU,” he added.
