Bishop Lawrence Mukasa Participates in the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly in Kenya

The Bishop of Kasana–Luweero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, is in Nairobi, Kenya, participating in the 21st Plenary Assembly of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA).

The Plenary Assembly, hosted by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), began on 19 July 2026 and will conclude on 26 July 2026 at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi. Delegates from across the AMECEA region arrived on 18 July ahead of the week-long ecclesial gathering.

This year’s Assembly is being held under the theme:

“AMECEA’s Synodal Journey with Young People: Building Bridges of Communion, Hope, Justice, and Good Governance.”

The Assembly has brought together approximately 140 participants, including Catholic Bishops, priests, men and women religious, and young delegates from the AMECEA member countries to reflect on the life and mission of the Church in Eastern Africa in the spirit of synodality.

Recognition of Newly Appointed Bishops

Ahead of the Assembly, the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) communicated to the Diocese of Kasana–Luweero that bishops appointed since the 20th AMECEA Plenary Assembly, held in July 2022, would be formally introduced during this year’s gathering.

To facilitate this recognition, the AMECEA Communications Office requested each newly appointed bishop from the Uganda Episcopal Conference to submit a brief video introduction.

For the recording, the bishops were requested to mention their names, date of appointment, and respective diocese.

The bishops from Uganda being recognized at the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly are:

Most Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach, MCCI – Archbishop of Gulu, appointed on 22 March 2024.

Rt. Rev. Constantine Rupiny – Bishop of Nebbi, appointed on 26 November 2024.

Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa – Bishop of Kasana–Luweero, appointed on 29 April 2023.

Rt. Rev. Dominic Eibu, MCCI – Bishop of Kotido, appointed on 25 October 2022.

The AMECEA Plenary Assembly remains the highest decision-making forum of the Association, bringing together the Catholic Bishops of Eastern Africa to pray, deliberate, and chart a common pastoral direction for the Church in the region.

This year’s Assembly places particular emphasis on accompanying young people, strengthening ecclesial communion, promoting justice and peace, and advancing good governance in society.
